Expansion

We are all energy workers and where we put that energy will expand.

The concept in astrology. At the end of June, Jupiter moved into the sign of Leo and will work its way through for 13 months. Jupiter, the largest planet and giant force in our solar system, brings expansion and miracles. Leo is the sign of self-expression, shining that inner light of star quality. It’s important to know that whatever exists will expand. Whatever you continue to put your energy into, will expand. For the last year, Jupiter was transiting Cancer, the sign of family and emotion. Relationships that weren’t really aligned with my values and who I was becoming began to become very obviously not working for me anymore. The emotional dissonance was pushing me to make change. Once changes were made, I felt more myself again. Now this was no easy thing. It was extremely emotional and filled with doubt along the way. On the other side of it, though, I had peace and confirmation I made the right decisions. So one might deduce that in Leo, we will really shine and expand on our natural talents. However, if something is standing in the way of that, some unmet needs, some old wounds, that will also come to the forefront as the obstacle will need to be removed/healed in order to shine.

Think about it this way. If you’re trying to blow out a birthday candle, but you’re blowing all your air into a balloon instead, that flame is going to stay lit. Jupiter is going to pop the balloon so you can blow out the candle. Now, will you actually do it or grab another balloon, hold your breath, or set the cake on fire to avoid blowing out the candle.

The concept in relationships. Let’s say Maddy and Jaz have been in a relationship for 5 years. They used to spend a lot of effort and time in making each others’ lives easier, spending time together talking about their dreams and futures. After a few years, most weekends were spent in front of the TV and on their phones. While they both value the “chill weekend” vibe, their energy was being put into electronics and so that expanded. More and more time spent in front of them and therefore less time talking. They realize they are less connected and think something is wrong with the relationship. However, this acknowledgment and decision to cut back on screen time and spend more time putting energy into their relationship brought about healing the disconnect.

As a recovering people pleaser, I can acknowledge that much of my energy was put into making other people happy or at least satisfied because it would, I believed, make my life easier. If they were happy then I was happy. If their needs were met, then they would care more about mine. The problem with this is my needs never got attended to so I resented them AND felt unworthy of love and attention (Enneagram 2 anyone?). Once I looked inward and saw I can meet my own needs AND help others without that speaking to my self-worth then I healed. Until I made the change to focus on my energy and where it was going, I was stuck in that pattern.

What’s the common denominator? What does all of this have in common? A change was made by the individuals for their own lives to redirect their energy into expanding something healthier for them. Energy is a broad term for many things: time, effort, and even money. Yes, money is energy. It ebbs and flows and where we direct it, expands. This is why when people hoard money out of fear they can never have enough, the need to hoard more and more and fear of losing it expands.

In this time of Jupiter in Leo, we are encouraged to metaphorically (or literally if that’s you) sing, dance, show up, and shine at center stage. That said, there is an evolved way to go about this:

  1. How can we shine our light without dimming others?

  2. How can we take center stage as an ensemble, not shoving others aside for our own spot? There is room enough and resources for all of us.

  3. When we put our energy into expanding our talent and recognition, what purpose is it serving? Power, money and visibility? Or is it helping us fulfill our loving, divine purpose in this lifetime?

“Absolute power corrupts absolutely.” The famous Lord Acton quote warns us as we shine in our brilliant light, we have to be discerning that this is feeding our divine purpose and not our ego. Ego will tell us to achieve at whatever cost to self and others - it’s urgent, it’s limited, you can’t trust others with it. It’s our brain kicking in trying to preserve life and avoid discomfort. Our heart sees the bigger picture: we can live our best life without exploiting others or compromising our values.
